What is the Impact Tank?

The Impact Tank is JALE’s signature innovation — a living engine for systemic reform.

It’s not a think tank. It’s not a charity programme. It’s a collaborative space where convenors, community leaders, and institutions meet as equals to confront Africa’s most urgent justice challenges.

Each Impact Tank functions as a hub for solutions: identifying gaps, co-creating interventions, and driving change that is scalable, measurable, and deeply rooted in lived experiences.

Core Belief: When people closest to the problem lead the solution, justice stops being abstract

it becomes real.

How the

Impact Tank Works

The JALE Model

  • Flat Structure: No hierarchies. Every voice counts — grassroots organisers, legal experts, policymakers.
  • Cross-Sector Convenors: Each Tank is led by trusted convenors who bridge communities, government, and faith networks.
  • Action-Oriented: We prioritise pilot projects and rapid responses that scale into long-term reform.
  • Faith-Informed Strategy: Hope and moral courage guide our approach — inspiring solutions beyond politics or profit.

Our Impact Areas

JALE’s Impact Tank model currently drives six interconnected focus areas:

Digital Justice & Innovation

Harnessing technology to protect rights, improve transparency, and expand access to justice — from mobile reporting tools to AI-driven data insights.

Convenor Example: Tech advocate bridging digital policy and grassroots safety.

Community Safety & Law Enforcement Reform

Reimagining public safety by building trust between communities and law enforcement, addressing misconduct, and strengthening accountability mechanisms.

Convenor Example: Former police officer turned reform advocate.

Inclusive Justice, DEI & Human Rights

Ensuring diverse voices are represented and protected in legal systems, with a focus on gender, race, disability, and minority rights.

Convenor Example: Human rights lawyer specialising in anti-discrimination advocacy.

Youth, Education & Advocacy

Equipping young people and educators with legal literacy and leadership skills to drive long-term justice reform from the ground up.

Convenor Example: Youth activist leading school-based justice campaigns.

Strategic Partnerships & Policy Influence

Shaping policy through collaboration, bringing civil society, faith groups, and government together to influence legislation and budget priorities.

Convenor Example: Policy strategist connecting grassroots movements to legislative chambers.

Healing, Restoration & Community Resilience

Integrating restorative justice and trauma-informed practices to help communities heal from cycles of harm, violence, and systemic neglect.

Convenor Example: Community psychologist working with victims and offenders.

Why It Matters

Justice work is often fragmented — good people working in silos, tackling symptoms instead of systems. The Impact Tank breaks those walls. It creates one table where every voice matters, and where reform isn’t just discussed, but built and launched.

When we collaborate, we move from outrage to outcomes, from harm to healing, from injustice to impact.

Join the movement that is redefining what justice looks like in Africa.

Partner with a Tank, support a convenor, or bring your voice to the table.
